As anyone who knows 5forests can tell you, sustainability has been at the heart of our work since day one (no surprise with a name like 5forests!). We are on a never-ending mission to prioritize climate-positive actions in our own choices, whether that means becoming carbon positive, slashing our travel footprint, or leading the charge for sustainable web practices.
We are therefore super excited to announce that 5forests is now a member of 1% for the Planet!
Through this membership, we pledge no less than one percent of our top-line revenue (not profit) to approved organizations dedicated to tackling our planet’s most pressing environmental issues.
Why 1% for the Planet?
Like many people, we were skeptical about the real impact of certifications, memberships, and businesses for good. So, like the nerds that we are, we researched…and researched and researched. Thanks to clients such as the team at Brooks Wine, we were able to see first hand how 1% for the Planet works with their members to ensure transparency, accountability, and trust.
Since 2002, when it was started by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, 1% for the Planet members have given more than $435 million back to environmental nonprofits. Their six core areas (climate, food, land, pollution, water and wildlife) make it easy for us to contribute toward causes important to each of us, and their 1% for the Planet Impact Fund at National Philanthropic Trust drives an outsized impact via investments in climate solutions and targeted philanthropic grantmaking.
Over the next few weeks, we will be selecting our environmental partners (omg, there are over 5000 to choose from!). We’d love for you to be a part of this process, and we’ve enlisted our social media team’s help! So pop on over to Instagram, where all fun polls happen. Then, chime in! Let us know what matters to you, and together let’s make 2023 at least 1% better.
